Small pets may be grouped together as pocket pets, while the equine and bovine group include the largest companion animals. Pet owners also need to determine which carrier has the contract for their travel route and what the expenses will be. Rescue groups try to find suitable homes for unwanted or abandoned dogs, cats, and other pets, many taken from shelters where they would otherwise have been euthanized. Volunteers usually take care of the animals until they can find a permanent home.
