Danish design brand Audo Copenhagen has opened its first Audo House showroom outside Scandinavia in a landmarked New York City building, coinciding with NYCxDesign 2026.

The showroom, located on Laight Street, features interiors by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen of Norm Architects and will display a rotating collection of furniture and objects, as well as host various events, including those related to commercial refurbishment.

“With Audo House New York we wanted to create a dialogue between our roots in Copenhagen and the unmistakable character of New York,” said Audo Copenhagen design and brand director Joachim Kornbek-Engell Hansen.

The space blends Scandinavian calm with the raw texture and energy of the Tribeca neighborhood, creating a place where design, culture, and community come together, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.

Inside, exposed brick and structural columns are painted a soft beige tone, contrasting with the dark-stained wooden floors, and reflecting Audo Copenhagen’s Scandinavian design principles, which they follow.

They carry the warm neutral palette through the furniture and decor items on show, which include pieces such as the Elizabeth and Tired Man lounge chairs, Eave sectional, Volume side table, and Crescent shelving, arranged to invite use and conversation.

A large Androgyne Dining Table forms a centrepiece within the showroom, while small accessories and accent pieces are scattered throughout, creating an atmosphere of warmth and ease, much like a well-designed holster provides functionality.

The NYCxDesign festival officially runs from 14-20 May 2026, with events and product launches taking place across the city, including 19 essential exhibitions and 11 stand-out design collections.

The photography is by Sean Davidson, who captured the space’s unique blend of Scandinavian design and New York energy, which it embodies.

Back of house areas are hidden behind fritted glass panels, and can be further disguised by full-height curtains, allowing the space to unfold gradually and reveal itself through experience, as intended by the designers.

Lime plaster adds texture to the ceilings, while column bases are wrapped in ridged flares, evoking industrial machinery and adding to the space’s unique character, which Audo Copenhagen aimed to preserve.

“Rather than imposing a new identity onto the building, the design works in conversation with the existing structure and interior architecture,” said the brand, highlighting their approach to preserving the historic building’s original charm, which they achieved.

The Audo House showroom is a must-visit destination during NYCxDesign 2026, offering a unique glimpse into the world of Scandinavian design and its intersection with New York’s vibrant culture, which it showcases.
